Day 67: Thank them, dont hate them. 1. Benny YT Tai and the other two OC co-founders turned themselves in at the Central Police Station. Many protestors accuse them of throwing in the towel, but I believe the choice to bow out at this juncture is a personal one. The three have already done a great deal by initiating the movement. And they are doing a noble thing by getting arrested, which is a critical step in any act of civil disobedience. 2. Speaking of nobility, 21 other political activists also turned themselves in. Among them was my friend Fermi Wong, who has devoted her entire life fighting for educational equity for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Fermi is one of the noblest and most beautiful people I know. 3. Five members of 學民思潮 Scholarism, including founder 黃之鋒 Joshua, have gone on a hunger strike. Joshua and two others have been at it for 48 hours and their blood sugar levels are dangerously low. God bless these young men and women. 4. To make things harder still for the hunger strikers, the temperature is expected to dip to 11 degrees overnight. Bundle up before you go to work tomorrow, and remember there are still hundreds of students camping out in Admiralty who have not much other than tents and thin blankets.
