Day 7- Im getting ahead, but Im thankful for Victory Christian - TopicsExpress

Day 7- Im getting ahead, but Im thankful for Victory Christian Academy and for what it means in my life. In March of 2006, Carmen and I suffered a miscarriage. In October of that year, God opened a door for me to teach history and Bible at VCA. God took one child and gave us hundreds in return. He gave me a place to love on and invest in students. He placed me in there lives to not be there friend, but to be their teacher. He gave me the place where my son would play football, basketball, baseball, meet, and marry the girl of his dreams. Little did I know the day two students came into my class, one questioning what to do because she had broken up with a boy, and I told her to find a good Baptist boy that believed liked she did or she was wasting her time, that those words would turn into that student dating my son. God knew and had it planned all along. It is the place my daughter would first attend school, that would invest in her and help develop her into the young woman she is today. Ive made some of the greatest friends and colleagues while there, and now that many of my former students are grown, I am their friend now, still teaching and mentoring some. Many of those students were like my own children. I had the honor of escorting my daughter at homecoming as a Jr. High maid, but also the privilege of escorting a beautiful, young lady whose father was never involved. Ill never forget the day she asked. So many memories of that place. Ill never forget being so frustrated with a few of my young men who would not embrace Christ and wanted to act foolish. Kaye Jones told me, Now, Chris, youre going to have to stop beating yourself up over this. Lost people will always act like lost people. She was right. I wanted salvation for these boys more than they wanted it for themselves. They eventually got things right and I was reminded that salvation is of the Lord and comes in His time. One of the most important things though was the mentor God gave me. A Godly man, who baptized and married my son to his grand-daughter. In Seven years of seminary, I never had a mentor like I did in Brother Al Hamm. I could ask him anything and wed wrestle it out, always with scripture. Ill never forget the night I told the ref during the basketball game that I was going to sue him if one of these kids got hurt. My son was injured and wasnt even on the court that night. Well, the ref didnt like what I said and told me I had to leave. I turned to look at Brother Al sitting beside me who said, Chris, youve got to go. I was ejected. Not a very good example, I know, but I learned a good deal about my conduct in public that night. I also learned that you can sit upstairs in the Junior High hall way and see everything, scream as loud as you need, and no one can hear you, including the refs. VCA is a special place that God has used in my life and the life of my family. Some of the best friends weve ever known came into our lives through the doors of VIctory Christian Academy.
