Day 7: After our night in the woods near a waterfall we broke down - TopicsExpress

Day 7: After our night in the woods near a waterfall we broke down camp and went ahead of Team Hannover to try to find a place to shower before taking the ferry across the Lingenfjord. We could not find a camping area, so we decided to take the ferry which was just about to leave and find somewhere to shower on the other side of the fjord. We continued along the E6 toward Alta and found a place along the coast to shower. Lucky for us, one of the coin machines for the shower was broke and we were able to take hot showers for free. We all got cleaned up, shaved (I got to shave my head again), and were ready for a few more days of rally. Team Hannover caught up with us at the camping ground and were able to freshen up a bit too before we all headed out on our way towards the North Cape. At one of the parking spots we were able to run out and have a short snowball fight (well, more like iceball, but who cares, it’s mid-June and there was still snow). On the way we stopped twice to get some (expensive) food for breakfast/lunch and to fill up our gas tanks for the last (super expensive) time in Norway. Once we hit Olderfjord we split off on the E69 towards North Cape. The roads twisted up and down mountains and through the odd several kilometer long tunnel. It was a fun drive despite the fully loaded car. We reached the tourist trap at 20:00 or so and headed on in to look at the globe and whatever else they had there (for 160NOK per person we had to make it count). We asked the personnel about taking a photo with our car and they all seemed to say they can’t forbid it, but they also don’t approve of it. So, after seeing a few other teams fly through the bus lane to get to the globe, we decided to follow suit. After completing our task for the day, we headed back south to find a warmer, less windy area to camp. After checking out a few promising pathways, we found a rocky path which ended up taking us out to the coast behind a steep drop. We had a perfect view of the midnight sun and were protected from the wicked winds. We set up camp and enjoyed some pea stew with hot dogs. After enjoying the sun for a while, everyone headed to bed to get some more rest after another long day of driving. -Bryan
