Day 7. Lhasa Today is our first day on the high plateau. We will depart early to the Jokhang Temple which is in the center of the oldest part of Lhasa. Jokhang Temple is an especially fascinating site as it is one of the most sacred temples in all of Tibet and is always bustling with local pilgrims. After We visit the inside of the temple, we will have the chance to wander around Bakhor Street, a crowded central market in Lhasa. It’s a wonderful place to sample handmade crafts and traditional Tibetan food. Until very recently, the local market was a spectacular array of traditional clothes and music but after much Western exposure, it has transformed into a shopping center for tourists. Nonetheless, traditional Tibetan lifestyle is still showcased and many visitors marvel at the beauty of this unique culture. After lunch, we will visit the famous Potala Palace, a renowned landmark of Tibet and a spectacular masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. It was first built by the 33rd King Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and later rebuilt in the 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama.
