Day 7: Sunday, March 16 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:12-13 ESV) As we close out the Lord’s Prayer we remember part of what Christ has done for us. He has made atonement for our sins and brought us to God. We have been forgiven. Now as those who have experienced forgiveness we are called on to extend forgiveness to others. We can’t boast in the grace and freedom from sin afforded us in Jesus Christ if we are unwilling to extend that grace to others. The Apostle John wrote: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness… Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (1 John 1:9, 2:10-11 ESV) Give praise to God that He forgives all who turn to Him in repentance. Ask God to move in our community to heal wounds and rivalries rooted in sin. Pray for those who are holding grudges to release them in forgiveness today. Pray for family members who are estranged to be restored. Pray for friendships to be renewed by the power of the gospel. Pray that Jesus’ name is lifted up through the power to forgive others.
