Day 77 - March 19 Deuteronomy 24-27 In Old Testament times, - TopicsExpress

Day 77 - March 19 Deuteronomy 24-27 In Old Testament times, many people became orphans or widows due to the high mortality rate during childbirth and the many deaths sustained through war and disease. In order to ensure that these poor people did not starve to death, God commanded the children of Israel to leave some of the gleanings of their harvest for the needy. From the abundance of their blessings, the poor were fed. God provided for those who could not provide for themselves, but He did it through His people. Today, there are many who are crying out for relief—the homeless, the destitute, the single mother struggling to raise her children on her own. If we have been blessed by God, then it is only right that we should be a blessing to others. No one likes paying taxes, but we enjoy the good that it brings—hospitals, roads, schools. If the money that we make is used by those in the secular world to help others, how much more should we as Christians be willing to help those in need? As soon as the children of Israel entered the Promised Land, they were commanded to give a first fruits offering. This was not merely a gift, it was an opportunity to worship and remember the great things that God had done for them. At that stage, the Israelites hadn’t even started conquering the nations who lived there—many battles still faced them before they could settle down in the land. But this time of worship prepared them to take on the giants that would come. Even if you are in the midst of a trial and your battle is far from over, you can still rejoice in what God has done, knowing that He will bring the victory in time! Lord, You have blessed me so abundantly! Remind me of my responsibility to be a blessing to others, and help me to find someone this week with who I can share what You have given me. Open my eyes to opportunities to bless others, not just with money, but also with kindness, love and the good news of the gospel message. I rejoice in You today, knowing that whatever I am going through right now, You are still worthy of worship! In Jesus Name, Amen.
