Day 8 - November 14, 2014 I know that I am a very detailed person and some members of my immediate family indicated that my updates are too long so I will try to be more concise: Haha! GOOD NEWS! - 1) chest x-rays show slight improvement in lower left lung; 2) O2 levels remained stable with ventilator at 50% so they lowered it to 40% and he tolerated that well all day; 3) dr. said he may not have to have tracheostomy after all-they will watch over the weekend (I take this to mean that he may come off the ventilator by Monday); 4) blood pressure, heart rate and respiration rate were pretty consistent all day. SPECIFIC PRAYER NEEDS: 1) He still has a fever in spite of antibiotic and Tylenol with it going up to 103 today. Infectious disease dr.is looking at labs and did more cultures to find the source. Seems the type of strep can show up in urine but colonize elsewhere. He changed antibiotic and they put him on cooling blanket and fever dropped to 101; 2) they did chest and abdominal CT to check for anything (pneumonia, etc) - waiting for results; 3) upper left lung and right lung are about the same as before; 4) no neurological assessment yet because every time they stop sedation, one or more of his vitals will exceed the normal range and they restart sedation. So, please pray for them to identify the source of the infection, fever to break and stay fever free; lungs to clear completely so they can remove chest tube and ventilator; to be able to do the neuro assessment and for neurological function to be unaffected and whole. The young man I mentioned is still hanging on. His wife, Mari, had not left the hospital since he was brought in Wednesday until this afternoon when she had to go to Texas Childrens to take milk to her newborn. I just found out that she delivered by C-section so she is 2 weeks out of major surgery. Please continue to lift this family in prayer.
