Day 8 - San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury) I woke up at 5 in Anaheim and started my journey north. I made it about 5 miles before hitting stop and go traffic. It was stop and go from there through Hollywood. My plan was to take the 101 up to San Luis Obispo and head over to the PCH and up. The week of sitting in traffic in southern Cali had made up my mind for me differently, however. This is going to get the most comments but I did not go through Big Sur or Carmel or Pebble Beach or Monterey. I just wanted to not be driving anymore so I went the shortest route I could which ended up being about 8 hours. It was a fiasco finding the rental car return place and then my phone didnt get service so I couldnt pull up directions or contact my next host. I finally found it and cabbed to the Haight and got into my room. Im staying in one of the painted ladies in a small cubby room on the top floor. Its pretty cool. Its just a short 1 block walk up to Haight St and so I wondered around on Haight all night. The first people I talked to and asked directions from, however, just happened to be from a little town called Daytona Beach. It is really a cool neighborhood with alot of interesting people. Next stop - San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury)
