Day #8: Thankful that it is the Autumn Season or Fall Season as some call it. It us my favorite time of the year. The Autumn of my childhood and youth found me outside in the cool, crisp air out in nature. From bird season (dove/quail), turkey and deer season I would be with my Dad hunting. I would help him on the farm feeding cattle, horses and other farm duties and they were always more enjoyable during this time of the year than in the heat of Summer. I have always loved the turning of the leaves...the Fall colors. My first years here on the farm Jim and I would take walks and enjoy the change of the seasons and we use to hunt together. When he got back into retail food store management his schedule kept us from doing a lot things like that. I truly miss coming in from work changing into jeans, flannel shirt, boots and a cap or hat and the two of us walking up to the west pasture...that was our time to enjoy nature, share the day with each other and just have our time. Now we have to worry about the horses bothering us as we walk (Jim has quit walking as his exercise because one of the horses likes to chase him, the other one and the burro just follow him around like puppy dogs--comical to watch, but bothersome mostly) and the boys are some times hunting the same times it is convent for us to walk so we just dont do it anyone. I miss those walks just me by myself and the ones with my husband. I had thought when Jim retired we would now be able to do and enjoy some of the things we use to do during the first years of our marriage and it was just us and we would walk out amongst our longhorns and watch the calves...now there are only two cows, one calf, a guard burro that Johnny brought out here and Jim says is staying on the place for Jenny gets along with Pretty Girl, Miss Dandy and Blondie and two horses who here only temporary.
