Day 8 and last recap till we get home – Everyone on the trip woke up early to head into San Marino for the 2000-team finals. The boys played absolutely fantastic and dominated the whole game. Unfortunately they could not buy a goal. They went down 1-0 and then quickly came back to tie it 1-1. Late in the game Ryan received a yellow card and probably a good thing as if he didn’t stop the attacker they would have been 4 on 2. The game went to PKs. Liam led off with a goal and his 2 other teammates followed. Christian Pomponio was an absolute beast turning away a few attempts by the opposition. Ryan was on deck for the next PK but it never got to him as the team had sealed the title. It was great to watch them do a lap around the stadium carrying the US Flag. We have tons of pictures that we will post when we get home. After the game we went to a farm for some wine tasting and good food. We still had time before the award ceremony so we went back to down town San Marino for some more sightseeing. The boys all received a nice medal and huge cup that we have to figure out how to get home. Of course what did the boys want to do next? Race back to the beach so they can play beach soccer. We are up early tomorrow AM to depart for Rome where we will do some touring and home soon. So proud of my boys and all that came on the trip. Another great experience for Ryan and Liam as well as others, and great life lessons for some of them. All the boys were extremely well behaved.
