Day 9 of NaNoWriMo report: Daily Words: 1,908 and OMG the Cardinals are 8-1! Cumulative Words: 13,257 Quick commercial in case you like to give books for the holidays: If ye buy any six signed copies by the end of this week from the Poisoned Pen, you will A) get em for the holidays, and B) Ill throw in Oberons first sausage recipe from THE BOOK OF FIVE MEATS. Link/phone number to the Poisoned Pen is on my website home page, third paragraph. :) OK! Todays writing Q & A: Q: How did you get published? Did you mass query agents? A: I queried agents in small batches. If you get nothing but form rejections then your query letter needs work. Revise that and send out to another small batch. If you get requests for partial manuscripts and then they reject you after reading it, then its your manuscript that needs work. I do *not* recommend sending your NaNoWriMo novel off in December. Revise it. Get beta readers to comment on it. Revise more. Walk away for a week or so, come back, and revise again. THEN maybe start querying. I used AgentQuery dot com to generate a list of agents by genre. I only submitted to agents that said they represent sci-fi and fantasy. 23 rejected me before one said yes. My agent sent HOUNDED to nine publishers and five rejected it but four said yes, wed like to print that, and I got to choose one. The point Im making with these numbers is that your book wont be for everyone and thats cool. No book can scratch everyones itch. And when you find an agent whos excited about your work then you wont mind the inevitable rejections so much, I promise. :)
