Day EIGHT Daily Limb: #8 Niyama number 3, tapas or ardor. Ardor - TopicsExpress

Day EIGHT Daily Limb: #8 Niyama number 3, tapas or ardor. Ardor is burning desire- something we can only experience by tasting a bit of the nectar of our potential awakening. This particular niyama, in my mind always turns the soil of conflict. If we are to practice contentment, how then can we by the same token want this sense of desire to achieving awakening? Isnt contentment itself a form of enlightenment? Alas, how I have learned to view these seemingly contradictory concepts is like this: Contentment is never the same thing as complacency; whereby we are simply okay with everything- AKA the Its all good mentality. And that it is possible to feel an eagerness that brings or is an aspect of contentment- which is not the same as wanting out of a sense of lacking. Tapas also translates to heat as a virtue, as though our very existence can resemble that of an ember, which either burns as it is meant to, or exists dormant and cold, awaiting the fire that ignites it. Tapas is the third niyama, niyama is the second limb.
