Day Eleven of Organizing for RICLAPP. Working to make change is hard. Its tiring, and sometimes discouraging. It can seem thankless. And in this instance, where the change were trying to make is so important, where the legislation (Senate Bills 2369 and 2369; House Bills 7841 and 7842) to fund RICLAPP would not devote one cent in taxpayer money to our programs, and where the impact on the lives of thousands of underserved Rhode Islanders is so profound its hard not to get discouraged when our legislators dont appreciate the non-brainer that enacting this legislation is. Discouragement leads to despair, and despair leads to defeat. I tell my RICLAPP associates that the key to success is refusing to give up, or leave the field. Sometimes hanging in is the only play you have. And make no mistake, I get discouraged like anyone else. But when I do, I remind myself of the inspirational message of Bluto Blutarsky. So when youre feeling put upon, beat up and defeated, listen to these few seconds of pure inspiration and contact more legislators and please contact your friends and ask them to contact their legislators.
