Day Five - Grattitude Today we leave Lake Superior, although we will be hanging on to the Upper Peninsula as long as we can. This will be our last week on the road ... we will begin to head south... slowly, slowly driving down 27 till we get home. Theres so much to be grateful for, and now most of it is in focus (probably the reason for the five days in a row thing). But here are a few more as I end this meme - (1) Water. Fresh water lakes, rivers and ice cold water to drink. Salt water marshes and the oceans of my childhood and home. We have had four boat trips and each time I am so comforted by the rocking of the waves and the beauty of the changing light as it lights up the greens and blues or turns the water gray and silver. I have such a new respect for these Great Lakes whenever I spend time here - and I cant believe how little I knew about them for most of my life. If you have never been here - anywhere in the Great Lakes region - you should DEFINITELY put it on your bucket list! (2) Cameras. Im so grateful that cameras are so easy to use and to share pictures. I can snap shots with my phone, and remember where we have been. And even if the pictures arent that great, they keep me in touch with folks back home who can get a sense of my trip. Others using their cameras keep me in their lives, and Im grateful for that. And I met a woman on our Pictured Rock cruise who had a fine, fine camera and she took about 500 photos - she is going to email me pictures! So theres that friendly thing too - as we all try to capture just a piece of our adventure. I remember the days of trying to get only the perfect shot - and how expensive it was to develop. Now, it is just a part of my day, and as my memory goes, I still have a bit of a trail to my past! (3) Memories. Im grateful that I have memories that I can connect to my present life, and get even more enjoyment out of wherever I am. Whether its food, or smells, or situations, or books, or people who look like other people, I have these wonderful connections going on inside - small beach towns of my childhood and these small beach towns of this day. Churches. Hamburgers. Cups of coffee. Games that kids are playing as they wait on dinner to come. Im also grateful for the memories I have of my brother Mike and even though I miss him, and am still sad that we lost him this year, as I watch all these brothers and sisters move through their summer vacations, Im so grateful that I have my memories of him - and of my sister and younger brothers... and of our lives together growing up. So this has been fun - and if you want to try it Susan, Kylie, Judi - Three things you are grateful for, five days in a row - tag 3 peeps.
