Day Five of the challenge thing. So Im left with summing up - TopicsExpress

Day Five of the challenge thing. So Im left with summing up seventeen years in three photos. Probably the most momentous event, not including births, deaths, love, kids etc...was our purchase of the old Blue Earth County Poor Farm in 1998. I was the beginning of a long process of demolition and reconstruction that was a huge financial risk (we very nearly went broke) and a physical/mental challenge that I never want to repeat. Maybe Wilbur thinks differently. I DO know that she would like me to finally finish painting the exterior because right now it is half yellow and half white. Its been that way for long enough that most folks assume it was a creative decision by the guy living in it. So buying this place, to me, was a symbolic act. It said I am staying here. It was a gesture about place and the desire to make a place mine from the perspective of my art making. Maybe its a commitment thing. However it was also a decision that scattered my art making. I spent about a decade struggling coming out of the struggle doing, of all things, portraits of peoples pets. Since then I have viewed my painting process as a conceptual tool, I adjust the process to fit the outcome. I just paint what I want to paint and I want to paint a lot of different things. So these three images represent the various simultaneous diverging and converging aspects of my current work. The first is Big Blazer, he is from my series of large pet portraits. The second is from my Black Madonna (abstract) series the third is a painting of Pear Blossoms I did for my Mothers 80th birthday. I guess its a still life. Thanks to Cesar Forero, Kim Matthews and Lindsay Hopkins-Weld for the nomination.
