Day Four of our ski trip to Jackson Hole. Thats a photo of the author in full gear. Green circle = the easiest trails. Blue square = medium difficulty. Black diamond = hardest. The big news today was a personal milestone in my slow march to competence: I skied my first ungroomed black diamond trail, during a lesson with ski instructor Bill Moe. And thats at Jackson Hole, which is known as one of the steepest in North America. The trail is called Thunder. I also did another black: Bivouac, but that was groomed, meaning: smoothed out overnight by giant machines. The entire day we skied inside a giant cloud, rendering everything in black and white tones as you see from the other pictures. I was able to quiz Bill about skiing at Alta in Utah, which I will visit for the first time in January.
