Day One Hundred and Five-Ascent By Chaos Blackness looms against an assure sky, literary monument, magnificent monolith, to will and word… She stands beside my path, yet impedes my journey, beckons this writer to ascend three hundred and sixty feet of claustrophobic hallway, two hundred and eighty seven narrow, spiral steps, symbol of the arduous journey of pen across page…after page, after page… …and more… A journey from blackest night, through darkest day…storm, fire, flood… tentative to unshakeable, unrelenting, solid as the foundation of the world, anchored in the bond between man and woman, unchained commitment, steeped in word that will not be silenced, doubted, cast aside, the bad penny that always turns up, polished in the wake of action that will never falter, never fade, never rest, until the pinnacle is breached… So I climb, battered and bloodied, pains of more than years my sole companion, unwanted, unwelcome, but unable to deter this living pen, who writes dedication in every step, an effort to erase mistakes, turn error to elation, prove undying allegiance in the ecstasy of agony that screams through a body too stubborn to quit, too focused to fail the goal… I don’t know why I’m doing this, but it somehow proves my commitment to the one I cannot be without, the breath in my tortured lungs, the one addiction I don’t want to overcome, the poetry in my verse, the reason to my rhyme… The final step falls like the rest, sighs defeat and resigns daunted commission, as words advance to the warm radiance of sun… …and something else… …buffeted in the inevitable crosswinds any fool knows must batter those who dare… …and I do… … to break molds of the past, be more than “safe” in stereotypes of mundane normality, steeped in greater purpose than limited imaginations, unturned pages, dog eared dogma, can ever achieve… …and freedom descends the stairs he will never need to conquer again…
