Day One of work for the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, Nepal: After - TopicsExpress

Day One of work for the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, Nepal: After not sleeping much because of the mold/switching rooms fiasco, I started the day by punching myself in the nose. Hard. Not on purpose - I was trying to knot my laundry in a laundry bag and was pulling the cord toward me - the cord broke... Fortunately, the day just got better and better after that! Marissa Polnerow is such a kind, welcoming, smart and hard working host - she and her colleagues got the hall filled at the Embassy auditorium, so I got to perform Voices in the morning and Jen and Steve in the afternoon! Kritika Lamsal played Jen and was AH...MAY...ZING - I am so thrilled that she came and I wish I had it on videotape. Kripa Sigdel wants to write a similar skit in Nepali, filled with Nepalese references instead of American ones - I want to help her if I can! I didnt take photos all day, since I had to give up my camera to the Security forces upon entering the Embassy. But I did get to photograph an incredibly inspiring dinner, organized by Marissa, with incredible feminist women advocates, activists and academics. Two young men came as well. I just got home from that and am totally exhausted, but feel so blessed to be doing this work, and supporting the work of these amazing Nepali women and men trying to create a world free of gender-based violence.
