Day Seventeen Commune with God Daily We have learned that our main responsibility as Christian believers is to love God. We keep His commandments because we love Him. Our relationship with God is based on love. And we communicate with God from that love relationship. This is the basis of prayer. Prayer is a conversation -- it is speaking to God and then listening to His voice. Prayer is a dialogue between God and His people. The psalmist writes, I call to you, O Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you (Psalm 88:9b). God longs for us to come to Him in prayer every day. There is a way to come before Him with humility and honor that builds our love relationship with God. We are not to go to Him only when we have questions; only when we are troubled; or only when we need something. The Bible says, Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name (Psalm 100:4). When we come to God are we first praising Him? Are we coming to Him with a pure heart in prayer? Are we offering ourselves as a living sacrifice? Let us do so, and also let us thank Him before asking for anything. The second part of prayer is simple -- LISTEN. Every believer can hear Gods voice. It may be difficult to discern at first, but over time, you will grow to know the voice of the Great Shepherd. In fact, He gives us that promise in His word: My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27). As you talk to God, and listen for His voice, your love relationship will grow -- and He will guide your steps.
