Day Thirty Two of Organizing for RICLAPP Happy Sunday. I - TopicsExpress

Day Thirty Two of Organizing for RICLAPP Happy Sunday. I normally dont post on Sunday but our time is running out and theres still much to do. For those whove sent emails to our legislators on behalf of the RICLAPP bills, my profound thanks. Those who mean to but havent got to it, please do so now before time runs out and the legislative session ends. The end will come around mid-end June. So theres not a lot of time. Nobodys ever tried to launch an agency like RICLAPP - not its scope of services, the breadth of the people we serve, or the manner in which we deliver services. Make no mistake, we are unique. Heres something to consider - 30.5% or 316,000 live in households with incomes at 200% of the federal poverty level. For a family of 2 that comes to $2585/month. According to the Economic Progress Institute in Providence, the cost of living for a family of two in RI is $2959 or about $400 short of whats needed to maintain a subsistence standard of living. Oh, and the EPI calculation is based on a rent = $762/month - good luck with that. These are the people we help. Nothing fancy, no front page above the fold cases, just good old hard work helping people who cant financially afford to help themselves. If you think RICLAPP is worth keeping around, i urge you to go to riclapp.org/organizing.html click the links and contact the legislators on the committee and urge them to release the RICLAPP legislation to the floor for a vote by the full House and Senate.
