Day Twelve of Organizing for RICLAPP. Now that we have our fight song and our inspirational message, its time to get a little more serious. Nothing makes me more proud than when clients come to our aid. This week, two clients from 2009 offered to help us: one is s restaurant that has grown over the past two years, and the other is a non-profit organization that we helped organize. Both businesses, in some of the toughest economic times in my lifetime, are not just surviving but thriving. RICLAPP takes no credit for their success; their success is due to their hard work. However, I do assert that RICLAPP played an important role providing the guidance and structure that put them in a position where they could succeed. Like all our clients, these entrepreneurs were of modest means, but of great ambition and vision. We helped them as we have the over 200 small businesses - 161 of these businesses over the past three years - get in a position to succeed. And their success aids the struggling Rhode Island economy. These services are a part of our mission statement. You can go to riclapp.org and look it up. RICLAPP is not just in the legal services business, were also in the opportunity business. Whether its putting a low-income client in a position to make secure her food and housing, or an entrepreneur with modest resources to realize his vision, we work to provide an opportunity for our clients to live a safe, productive and - hopefully - better lives. Thats what we do. If you think its important that we be able to continue to do this work, please contact the senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee (webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/ComMembers/ComMemS.asp?ComChoiceS=SJUD) and ask that they vote to move to the Senate floor Senate Bills 2368 and 2369; and the House Judiciary Committee (webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/ComMembers/ComMemr.asp?ComChoiceR=HJUD) and ask that they vote to the House floor House Bills 7841 and 7842. These bills will ensure that RICLAPP - AT NO TAXPAYER COST - can continue to do its work.
