Day Two of Aduwan Gida Rural Clinic Renovation Aduwan Gida, Kaduna State, Nigeria – 18 July 2014 – Twenty-five community and Kunak volunteers along with 7 Anjeed Innova field staff continued work on the new drainage system to protect the clinic on Day Two of the Kunak Foundation’s Aduwan Gida Rural Clinic renovation project. Assessments of the Aduwan Gida clinic before renovation began revealed the seriousness of the threat erosion is to the integrity of the building. A new roof and repaired masonry are necessary to provide more pleasant, sanitary and safer conditions for staff and patients, but they require a firm foundation. The drainage problem on the main road is being remedied. Belting the drainage structure and building will be done with 520 nine-inch cinderblocks. According to professional advice, one layer of cinderblocks are to be placed around the drainage structure while a layer two-blocks thick will surround the foundation of the building to fortify it against further erosion. As well as the community volunteers working on the drainage project today, the District Head also came out to monitor the work and encourage the local youth who have volunteered to do the necessary work to complete the renovation project of the village’s clinic. Due to project logistics, there will be no construction or renovation work done on Saturday, 19 July. Work will recommence Monday, 20 July. Kunak Foundation team members and community leaders are pleased with the planning and work accomplished thus far. All look forward to completion of the project and the benefit it will be to the area.
