Day Two of our Free Spay/Neuter Blitz! It was a busy day at the Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project, as staff and volunteers went to work to get 59 cats checked in, sedated, prepped, altered, recovered and sent home, never to reproduce again! What a great service they provide, and the CCC was thrilled to be able to sponsor this clinic – thanks to all the donors who make it possible! 59 cats – owned and free-roaming – who will not be part of the problem anymore, and who all received complimentary vaccinations and flea treatment to boot! What an exciting way to celebrate the second day of our National Feral Cat day activities! One thing all rescuers have come to love about the FCSNP is the dedication to the well-being and overall health of the cat. While their mission is spay/neuter, we all know you cannot see cats in any distress and not help. To say “that’s not our mission” would be wrong, not to say demoralizing! Our CCC volunteers Mary and Laurie joined clinic staff Maria, Rita, Dr. Dawn and Dr. Robbie and FCSNP volunteer Cate in providing not only s/n, but some extra treatments for those in need. We were delighted Dr. Dawn was there to assess and treat a big orange boy with entropion eyelids – a painful condition where the eyelids turn in, the lashes rub against the eyeball, and cause pain and ulceration, eventually blindness. Dr. Dawn has a special fondness for making sure those are fixed – because with a little of her time and skill, and that cat will have a whole new life. Part of the mission? No, but… yes. Doing all we can to help the community cats. That’s just one example of the type of help these cats receive, thanks to the compassion of those who work and volunteer at the FCSNP. (it should be noted, no one should EVER expect the extra care – this is simply provided WHEN time/ability are there. It is an EXTRA, not a service that should ever be taken for granted! Our thanks on behalf of ALL free-roaming cats for these extras!) A HUGE thanks to FCSNP for partnering with us to provide this great kickoff to National Feral Cat day – officially tomorrow, but in our books going on all year long. Please join us in celebrating our free-roaming friends, and get one fixed today! Tomorrow – more free s/n clinics! One in Kent, one in Tacoma… yay!
