The event was witnessed by a creme-de-la-creme that thronged the chapter secretariat of the party along Nwaniba- Idu-Uruan, to give the lawmaker a rousing welcome. Addressing the party officers and faithful, Obong KufreAbasi Etuk commended the party for giving him the mandate to serve in his first term, saying, as a loyal servant, when PDP and the entire people of Uruan gave him a mandate, he did not fail them but had worked assiduously to accomplish the assignment he was sent and promised to carry out more assignments of the party in his second term. He expressed optimism that he speaks as a candidate of the party in the forthcoming election, throwing his weight behind his people who declared that there is no vacancy for Uruan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly in 2015. Obong Etuk, who heads Committee on Petroleum in the State House of Assembly, said, his vocal stand on issues relating to the development of Uruan in the hallowed chambers is because Atakpo people had given him the mandate to speak for them. “I went to the State House of Assembly to be your voice and it would have been uncharitable if I had failed to present the problems of Uruan people, said the Ekpene Ukim born lawmaker. He pleaded with his people to support the ruling party and the present government in the state led by a seasoned lawyer and extraordinary transformation Chief, Governor Godswill Akpabio, to end well. While presenting Hon. Etuk to the chapters/wards officers of the party, the Chairman, Southern Uruan Development Union, Hon. Effiong Thompson, himself an ex-officer of the party, said they were at the secretariat to officially consult the party over the lawmaker’s second term bid, which he assured will continue giving Uruan effective, effectual and robust representation. Obong Thompson made reference to the history of the party in Uruan and noted that the decision to support KufreAbasi Etuk is also in line with the party’s objective enshrined in Section 7 sub Section 2 of the PDP which states that, “For the purpose of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall apply the objective of rotation and zoning.” Hon. Thompson stressed that since the Northern part of the Constituency, through the Rt Hon Usenobong Akpabio had taken their turn of second term in the hallowed chambers, for the sake of justice, equity and fairness, the south through Hon. KufreAbasi Etuk, should be allowed without any interference from any zone, to complete a second term so as to give way for the Central part of the Constituency in 2019. Responding, the Chapter Chairman of PDP in Uruan, Prince Edinyanga Atakpo lauded the achievements of Hon. KufreAbasi Etuk in the past three years, accentuating that with Etuk in the Assembly, Uruan voice has been heard so loud. He thanked Hon. Etuk for always having the party at heart and for being the first to consult them. While urging the lawmaker not to panic, Prince Atakpo said the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
