Day one is in the books. Nothing left to do now but relax, eat, - TopicsExpress

Day one is in the books. Nothing left to do now but relax, eat, meet people from all over the world, and get a good sleep. On to Anapurna! Left Pokhara about 8:00 this morning, arrived at the trailhead about 9:00. Looked innocent enough, that is, until the steps. Man, it felt like I climbed the Empire State Building! Only a three mile hike today, but 1500 feet rise in elevation, from 5500 feet (like Denver) to just a bit over 7000. Beat this old man up at first, but got the second wind, and took breaks accordingly, and made the guest house around 11:00. Now just freshly rested, sitting down to a plate of Dal Bhat, a local favorite. Gyalgen is my guide, a Sherpa, and a wonderful, patient man. He does this trek every three weeks or so, sometimes Everest base camp, but mostly Anapurna. I am very fortunate to have him in my company. Along the trek, between gasps for air, I saw some most entertaining flora. Ferns and orchids-- tropical plants-- in the foothills of the Himalayas. Wow. Even more surprising was the sign wifi zone on the guesthouse cafe. Hence the post! Take care, everyone. Enjoy the pictures!
