Day one of an attitude of gratitude. Today I am thankful for fresh cut flowers. On the first day of my new job, my boss (& friend) from my prior job sent me flowers with a note of good luck and thanks. Its not just the flowers themselves (though they were beautiful) but what they represented and the memories of days past when flowers were part of my everyday life. When David and I were dating, he would send me flowers every couple of months. He used the same florist who made the most incredible and unique arrangements. At first I felt uncomfortable and wondered what he did that he needed to send apology flowers or what he wanted or bad news he was going to share. Then in time, I felt more secure in our relationship and realized I was dating a romantic. The flowers was his way of saying Im thinking of you and care about you. Then after our bank accounts were combined and I saw how much he spent on flowers, arrangements from the florist ended and replaced by occasional flowers bought from a roadside vendor or Publix. They werent as pretty, but meant so much more. After the flowers from my first day started to wilt, I decided I will continue to keep fresh flowers on my desk as a reminder of love and the beauty in life. Not to mention they brighten up my office and make people wonder whats up with this new employee.
