Day three of the 5 day Art Challenge where you post up photos of your work and each day nominate another to do the same. Today I nominate Gordon K. Uyehara because I love his work! So you can see my progression...... When I started to make jewelry, I loved stones. It was all about the stones. Rock hounds used to come to my booth and spend hours yakking with me about stones. As I evolved a bit I began to pay more attention to my metal work and started making spiculums. Long, thorn-like vessels. In those I also incorporated my love of beadwork, peyote stitching pearl elements onto the pieces. Trained as a stone sculptor from age 11, I decided that it was time to bring that back into the picture. I discovered fossilized walrus tusk and began to carve figurative pieces. Eventually I attempted to combine everything. 1. Moonstone, tourmaline, iolite, sterling pin/pendant. .5 x 3 1998 2. Rapunzels Tower Spiculum: Sterling, 22k, coral, peyote stitched pearls on deerskin. I loved fairy tales as a child. This represents Rapunzels tower. There is a small door at the bottom on the back of the piece. .5 x 3 1999 3. The Glassblowers Wife: Carved hand tinted fossil walrus tusk, sterling, 22k, moonstones, natural American pearl. Pin pendant. 2 x 3 2000 4. La Victoire Niche Award Winner 2001. Presently in the Czerwinski Collection. Carved fossil walrus tusk, sterling, 22k, coral, tourmalines, diamond, peyote stitched pearls on deerskin. Pin/Pendant/perfume bottle, stick pin. .75 x 3.5
