Days like today remind me of just how far I’ve come in my journey. I’m remembering when all I saw was a never ending tunnel of darkness. I’m so grateful that I had a strong support system of family and friends who wrapped compassionate and loving arms around me, became my legs when I wasn’t strong enough to walk away and they carried me. They loved me, even though they were angry and upset with me that I didn’t share what was happening in my life sooner…they never judged me, they never called me stupid or foolish for staying in an abusive marriage, they never said “well you stayed so you got what you deserved”. They never repeated an abusers harsh words of “this is your fault”. They simply loved me and encouraged me…right back to life. Watching my newsfeed and twitter feed today is so disheartening…and sad. Ladies I hope you are paying close attention…because I most certainly have gotten an eye-full today… I’m so grateful there are men in my life who contradict what I’m seeing today. To those who have gone through it celebrate your strength and courage for getting out. Reach out to someone who is going through the same thing. To those who are still suffering in silence…reach out to me or someone you trust or contact the Domestic Violence hotline. Allow them to be your lifeline…don’t be scared to use it. There is truly life on the other side…and it’s more beautiful and more amazing than you can ever imagine. It’s a hard road back and the hardest part will be to forgive yourself…but there is light at the end of that dark tunnel. Had to get that off my chest today…I’ll release the rest on my blog later…
