Dazzler was a roller-skating, disco queen super heroine that debuted in the pages of X-MEN #130 in 1980, before getting her own comic book the following year. The interesting thing about Dazzler to me is that, when the character was first being conceived and developed in 1979, the plan was for Marvel Comics and the record label Casablanca to co-produce a Dazzler movie that was not only to star Cher, Robin Williams, Bo Derek, Rodney Dangerfield and Donna Summer, but was to feature a battle between super-powered rock groups KISS and The Village People (both of whom were signed to the Casablanca label)! Of course, Marvel had hit pay-dirt with their two KISS comic books in 1977 and 1978, but unfortunately, the death of disco and the declining popularity of KISS in the US in 1980 put the film permanently on ice, sending it to join the ranks of classic unproduced cinema... You can read more about the planned Dazzler film, as well as download the screen treatment from then Marvel head honcho Jim Shooter, here: cinema-suicide/2011/07/15/disco-dazzler-aka-kiss-vs-the-village-people-a-marvel-comics-production/
