Political solution must take place this year. It’s not going to be like 2014 Moscow and Cairo initiatives are seen favourably by the UN We need serious attempts in 2015. We don’t have agreement on freeze in Aleppo. Negotiations with gov and opp leaders still ongoing. Mistrust still obstacle. Any initiative (referring to Moscow talks) on how to proceed in the dialogue can be used by UN to move it forward to a full political process. New factors since Geneva II: ISIS & Nusra active across Syria. Recognition that no victory is possible. US led coalition vs ISIS. Reduction of violence vital to political process. Assad said he’s interested in studying the proposal but devil in details. Q: Which opp groups are you engaged with? A: we’re talking to “all possible factions” Q: What do you expect from Russian initiative? A: Ask Russian authorities. They are the ones planning for it. We’re hoping more than expecting the meeting to be a success & Opportunity to launch dialogue.
