Deadline for submission of abstract and/or paper: December 2, 2013. Notification of acceptance: February 15, 2014. The theme for the 9th Black Diaspora Conference is “Gaining and Practicing Citizenship Across the Diaspora: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.” Papers on any aspect of the Black Diaspora are welcome, but the organizers are particularly interested in papers that connect issues of civil rights the practice of citizenship and the experience of Black people as they continue to navigate the exercise of citizens’ rights and obligations around the world. We invite the submission of papers and panels from scholars, faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, and community activists. Presentations will be accepted in all academic areas, including: humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, education, and performing and fine arts. Contributions may be historical, theoretical, empirical, or comparative, and innovative approaches are especially welcome. Paper contributions should be for 20 minute presentations. Acceptance of the submission implies a commitment to register for and attend the conference. Registration is $100 for presenters and $15 for retired scholars, senior citizens, and students.
