Deadlock over Buhari’s running mate 2014-12-16 10:10 Abuja - A meeting called by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to choose a running mate for the party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari ended in a stalemate on Monday, reports Punch. The meeting, which was held at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, was characterised by intense horse-trading. The stalemate resulted from the insistence of the various caucuses in the party that their candidates should be picked as Buhari’s running mate. Those being considered are Governors Rotimi Amaechi(Rivers), Babatunde Fashola(Lagos), Adams Oshiomhole(Edo) and a former Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yemi Osibajo. Also read: Oshiomhole may emerge Buhari’s running mate Others whose names came up were former governors Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and former governor Adeniyi Adebayo of Ekiti State. When the meeting failed to reach a consensus, a seven-member committee headed by Tony Momoh was set up to prune down the number of aspirants. Monday’s meeting was attended by Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rochas Okorocha, Sam Nda Isaiah, Governors Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), and Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara). The meeting will reconvene on Tuesday
