Dean Update - 11 months ago today....what an amazing weekend to be thankful for! Healing is happening a little faster these days. The driving today was from home to and thru the Biltmore Estate and home again. He has done this before, but today, he used his left hand to help steer! Yesterday, Dean sat in front of over 150 physical therapy students at Western Carolina and discussed his accident, feelings...changes in his life and what he felt would have helped more for doctors/therapists to have known about him during this TBI journey. Our prayer is that his experience will help shed light on how to better care for folks with a TBI. But the best part came this morning...we were able to go to church. We love our little church so much. And as we sang praise songs, I loved over at Dean and he was raising his left arm in praise to God. It touched me so deeply to see him give God the glory and show God how HIS work was coming along. One of the common threads we found amongst survivors yesterday is that they have lost people in their lives, people who do not or refuse to understand TBI. After a little discussion we realized that the folks who have moved out of our lives were the negative people. And we also realized that the common thread among the survivors was how having a positive attitude and knowing God was such an important component to their healing, all 3 spoke of how being thankful was what had brought them to WCU to this seminar. And they told 150 future caretakers this...maybe it will have an impact on future TBI patients. Now we know that those we have lost from our lives were the wrong people to have IN our lives during this time. God surely has watched over us and stood beside us through this entire process - Dean could choose to feel like "Why Me" but instead he has chosen to say "OK God, how can I take this and do something positive with it" I am so incredibly proud of my husband, he is an amazing man and my very best friend. I am thankful God chose me to be a part of this journey with Dean. While it has not been easy, the rewards and positivity have made the journey a positive life experience rather than the worst thing that has ever happened to us. May God bless each of you that we call friends!!!!
