Dear All, At long last the UN investigation team has been appointed, terms of reference and mechanism to collect and document witnesses and victims has commenced. We Tamils need to appreciate the importance and urgency of this important independent investigation, that we all demanded the International Community to undertake, through the UNHRC, for justice and accountability and hopefully will lead to a permanent political solution and reconciliation, and stop the on-going genocide on our people and on our homeland. An oral report by the investigating team will be presented to the UNHR Council in September this year and the final report in March 2015, for further deliberation, actions, and implementation. It is now our responsibility to come together and support the UN team, and each other, and assist in collecting and documenting as many as possible who were victims and or witnesses during the 2002 -2009 period in Sri Lanka. This is the report the world will be waiting to see, and the input of each and every victim and witness to this war crimes, crimes against humanity, the genocide that took place, is crucial and important. We need to collect and document from as many cases as possible, and your role to assist and cooperate is equally crucial and important. Remember, this is for and about our future as a people and as a nation. I am pleased that an independent international voluntary NGO, International Centre for Prevention and Prosecution of Genocide based in London, a team headed under the guidance and leadership of Prof Sornarajah, an eminent professor of law, visiting Professor - London School of Economics, has been set up to assist Tamil refugees, witnesses and victims of war, in the collection and documenting statements (extrajudicial executions, disappearances, internally displaced persons, arbitrary detentions, violence against women, torture etc.) for submission to relevant authorities and to pursue the international independent investigations, war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
