Dear All, Attached is our Crime Report for October. With 139 - TopicsExpress

Dear All, Attached is our Crime Report for October. With 139 incidents this month we are considerably lower than the past 2 months. While the total for the year is not nearly as low as last year, we are still below 2010. Hopefully the next two months will continue to go down and we can finish the year on a downward trend. I would like to offer a few tips as we head into colder weather and the holidays: 1.) Dont let your car warm up in the driveway. It only takes a few seconds to break a window and take off. 2.) As you go about your holiday shopping, do not leave packages or anything in plain sight when you are parked. And if you bring packages back to the car to put in the trunk, move your car as well. Someone could be watching and know that there is something of value in the trunk. 3.) If you purchase a large item, do not put the box out for the trash. Break it down and put it inside the can or a bag. Dont advertise that new TV or computer. 4.) It is getting dark a lot earlier. Make sure you have outside lights on in the evening and at night. Also, make sure that you have lights on inside your house when it is not light outside as well. 5.) Do not open your door to strangers. And make sure that your doors are always locked, even when you are home. By following these may not prevent crimes from happening, but it can help make you less likely to be a victim. Remember - IF IT DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT TO YOU - CALL 911! I know many neighborhoods have been having Crime Watch Meetings lately. A lot more ways to be pro-active against crime at home or out and about are given at these meetings. If your neighborhood has not been one of those, I would like to encourage you to invite Diane Moorman, our Northwest District Crime Watch Specialist, to come out and talk to the residents of your area. Her contact info is [email protected] or 327-6572. I know she would be delighted to set up a meeting in your neighborhood. Together we can all make a difference and help make our area the safest in the City! Once more - if it doesnt look right to you - call 911! Sincerely, Janice McHenry City-County Councillor District 6
