Dear American Red Cross, while I can understand your tactic of saving portions of donations given for popular disasters to fund other relief efforts that dont receive as much publicity, I feel its disingenuous to ask people to donate money to support the terrible ABC that happens in XYZ When that is not truly the case. You are asking people to fund the Red Cross and then YOU will donate some (to be fair, most) of that money to XYZ, before skimming the rest into your back reserve rainy day fund. When I send money to support XYZ I want it all to go to XYZ. You word your charity drives to imply this is the case and that is were I take issue. P.S. Red Cross has a very low cost in regards to other charities and donates 91% of money that comes into them. From my reading, a 9% cost (administrative and fund raising costs) is pretty impressive, and certainly Red Cross is not misusing their funds by any means and I do NOT want to give that impression. All of your money WILL be donated, just not necessarily where you expected it to go. I just wish your business model was explained more explicitly.
