Dear Andeanist, The Institute of Andean Studies announces a second, later deadline of Wednesday, October 15, 2014, for paper and poster proposals for its 55th annual meeting, to be held on Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10, 2015, at the University of California, Berkeley, Room 112, Wurster Hall. Members, non-members, and students are all welcome, both to attend and to present papers and posters. The Institute previously announced a deadline of September 23, earlier than in previous years, to allow foreign colleagues time to process travel documents. This proved too early for many US colleagues, especially those on academic quarter schedules, who are only now returning to their campuses. The Institute is shifting to a two-deadline process, in which those desiring an earlier acceptance notice may submit by the early deadline; preference will be given to presenters traveling from outside the country or who indicate a particular need. At least half of the presentation slots will be reserved for a second round of review, with submissions due by our traditional deadline of October 15. Any proposals not accepted for early notice will be included automatically in the second round of review. The deadline for the first annual Travel Grant competition for scholars from Latin America is not extended, since the grantee will likely need early notice in order to obtain a visa. Call for papers and posters: Twenty-one papers and an unspecified number of posters will be accepted. Topics are limited to Andean archaeology and closely related subjects. Thirty minutes are scheduled for each paper, including time for discussion. A computer and data projector are provided. Posters are about 3x4 feet (92x122 cm), and are displayed continuously during both days of the meeting. One 45-minute period each day is scheduled for discussion with poster authors.
