Dear Aspiring Model, I totally respect everyones desire to be a model. Take all the opportunities in having your professional test shoot photos taken. But please, make sure the peg or look suits you, make sure that you can use these photos for your vtrs and go~sees, make sure the photos still look like you in person -- that they are not overly edited or photoshopped. For your portfolio and setcard, make sure you have looks with simple shirts, formal or dress, and the most important, headshots. Frankly, underwear photos are not really necessary, unless requested by a trusted agency. Learn that expressions and poses should also be varied and appropriate. Practice thoroughly in front of a mirror days or weeks before scheduling a shoot. Sleep well and be physically prepared before the shoot. Test shoots or exchange shoots should produce good photos and deliver an experience that will benefit you and the team who worked with you (stylist, photographer, hair and make~up artist). Always check the background of the legitimate photographer, his book or portfolio, his experiences on portraiture, his workflow, his style, and his techniques. Always ask where the photos will be used, what type of shots will be done and how many photographers will be at the shoot (it might be an openshoot or a workshop). Some professional photographers will ask you to sign a model release that should state all the details of the shoot and the terms of the project. And lastly, always ask when will you be able to receive copies of your photos, and when and where will they be released. :-)
