Dear Chicago, I spent the first hour of my day chasing a wounded stray dog around my neighborhood with the intention of catching and helping it. Along the way, more than one stranger dropped what they were doing to aid in this pursuit. I did not catch the dog and was late for work. I came to three conclusions from this experience: 1. It is extremely difficult to influence a scared & wounded creature, no matter the intentions. 2. I can run faster than I expected in snow, harness boots & full winter wear. 3. The people of this city define it, not the other way around. Thanks for offering so many opportunities to learn and to interact with that Midwestern heart. Love, Caroline
