Dear Colleague, Hi, my name is Despina Phieros. I am a postgraduate student at Wits and am currently completing a Master’s Degree in occupational therapy. Part of the degree involves a research study. The title of this study is: The use of Standardized Assessments by Occupational Therapists in the Management of the Upper Extremity after Stroke in South Africa. Introduction You are invited to participate in this research study. This information letter is to help you decide if you would like to participate. Before you agree to take part in this study you should fully understand what is involved. If you have any questions, which are not fully explained in this letter, please do not hesitate to contact me, the researcher. What is the purpose of the study? The study sets out to explore the beliefs, opinions and perceptions of the South African occupational therapists with regard to the knowledge and use of standardized assessments in the management of the upper extremity after stroke. The study intends to find the limitations as well as the facilitators to the use of standardized assessments. The study also aspires to find any differences in the aspects that facilitate or limit the use of standardized upper extremity assessments within the public vs. the private sector. Procedure of study Simply complete the questionnaire, which should only take 10minutes. The link to the survey appears at the end of this information letter and once completed please submit. If you complete the questionnaire, and return it, this will be assumed as informed consent to participate in the research. If you would like to withdraw from the study for any reason, you may do so without any consequences. Your data will be removed from the study. Confidentiality All efforts will be made to ensure confidentiality and the returned questionnaires will have no identifying information on them. All data will be coded. There will be no penalties for not completing the questionnaire.
