Dear Colleagues As you know, the TUC are coordinating two weeks of action to highlight the impact of austerity and cuts on communities across the country, with bus visits to highlight the effects of service and benefit cuts. The bus will be in our region on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June 2013, visiting Sheffield and Halifax, and I outline the schedule for each day below: Sheffield – Saturday 22nd June 2013 10.00am – 11.30am Stocksbridge Leisure Centre Moorland Drive Stocksbridge Sheffield S36 1EG 12.00pm – 1.30pm Chapeltown CAB 119 Chapel Road Chapeltown Sheffield S35 1QL 2.00pm – 3.30pm Fir Vale Foodbank St Cuthbert’s Church 7 Horndean Road Sheffield S5 6UJ The bus will be parked at: Trinity Firvale Methodist Church Firth Park Road Sheffield South Yorkshire S5 6WN 4.00pm – 5.00pm Handsworth Social Club 13 Hall Road Sheffield S13 9AG 6.00pm – 7.00pm Local Residents’ meeting TBC Halifax – Sunday 23rd June 2013 11.00am Halifax Town Centre Leafleting on cuts to services, linking with other relevant campaigns 1.30pm Todmorden Health Centre Lower George Street Todmorden Calderdale OL14 5RN Linking with Calderdale SOS and 38 degrees 3.30pm Public meeting, Venue TBC !WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! We would be grateful if you could distribute this information as widely as possible across your organisation, and encourage members to join us for any part of the bus tour. As well as volunteers, we would especially welcome input from regional secretaries. If anyone is able to join us on either day, we would very much welcome their input and I would be grateful if you could ask them to get in touch with the regional TUC office, or join all or any part of these events. We will provide leaflets and other promotional materials and hope to have good media coverage, with a varied programme covering issues around NHS cuts and reforms; the effects of the bedroom tax; service cuts; the closure of social centres and the long term effects of unemployment and austerity cuts and it is hoped to produce a documentary type film covering this activity. MPs and local councillors are also being invited and we would welcome community involvement. Please help us to make this event as successful as possible within our region, and don’t hesitate to contact us for further information. NB If you need to contact anyone on the day, please ring Bill Adams on 07867 788856.
