Dear Colleagues, First of all, apologies for such a long mail. - TopicsExpress

Dear Colleagues, First of all, apologies for such a long mail. Now a little background for people who have no idea about the issue I am going to talk about. According to the recently concluded CDRI-NIPER symposium-2014 brochure, I was the organizing secretary (with Dr. Neeraj Sinha) of this symposium. However, my name was missing from every other symposium related document. Since then many of our colleagues have questioned me about my association with the symposium but I am equally clueless. As I could not manage to meet NIPER symposium organizing committee members due to their busy schedules, after much deliberation I thought to communicate via mail. I hope the committee members remember that I was asked (actually compelled) to be the organizing secretary for CDRI-NIPER symposium-2014 by the committee despite my reluctance because I already had travel plans during first two weeks of February-2014. I was repeatedly told that the reason for my selection as the org. sec. for the symposium is that young scientists should be promoted to cultivate leadership qualities in them.I even proposed to be a council member rather than organizing sec.(before brochure was sent for printing) but committee assured me of complete assistance from NIPER cell and insisted that I continue as the org. sec. for NIPER-2014 symposium. So, because I was officially the org. sec. for NIPER-2014 symposium as printed in the brochure, I kept working for the symposium. I worked on the brochure content, I attended all meetings regarding this symposium without fail, I managed fund from vendors even when I was in Pune (was constantly talking/communicating with vendors, NIPER cell and Dr. P. K. Shukla and eventually could manage to receive some funding) taking this as my moral and ethical responsibility to give my best to the assigned task. But, I was taken aback when I found that my name was missing from all documents/invitation letter/souvenir etc. (just one day ahead of the symposium due to late printing of all this material). I even attended the symposium meeting on 18th Feb.2014 means just two days ahead of the symposium still believing that I was the org. sec.!!! In, fact I kept getting (and entertaining) calls from delegates to inquire about the symposium till 20th Feb. as my phone no. was given in the brochure. I acknowledge that the symposium organizing committee specially NIPER cell and Dr. P. K. Shukla put a great effort in organizing the event despite many constraints. I also acknowledge that there may be issues/situations/people beyond Dr. Shuklas (or anyones) control but I have no idea when/between whom/what transpired behind me which made me deserving for such disgraceful treatment from my seniors. I would have not involved too many people in this matter, had I been shown slightest of respect and concern (nobody from the symposium organizing committee bothered to talk to me about what happened) but later I decided to send this mail to the NIPER symposium council members and other colleagues because many of them asked me (or wondering secretly) whether I was the organizing sec. for NIPER-2014 symposium? What was the reason for my name being missing from symposium after being printed in the brochure? I do not have any reply to these queries. So, I thought that a public explanation for a public humiliation via a more transparent medium of communication (e-mail) is appropriate. So, I’d humbly request symposium organizing committee to please clear the air as such incidents are spirit dampening for a young faculty member rather than helpful in cultivating leadership qualities. Please do let me know my fault, if there was any, because I genuinely wish to continue contributing towards the betterment of CDRI under the guidance of our seniors. With sincere regards, Dr. Namrata Rastogi MPC Division, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow (Surprisingly, when before brochure printing I insisted that my name should be removed as org. sec. in the brochure as that is a huge responsibility, Dr. Shukla told me that everyone in CDRI knows that you are going to be the org. sec. for this symposium so let your name be there otherwise there will be lot of hue and cry and discussions. So, the kind of hue and cry and discussion/gossip is for anyone to guess when my name was removed after official declaration in the brochure)
