Dear Colleagues, When Union Power campaigned for office, they promised the world to Substitute Teachers. Yet shortly after being elected, they removed their unionpower2014.org website, along with all related campaign materials. Apparently they dont want to be held accountable fro the promises they made. Well, thanks to the efforts of rank and file members, you can read their promises here: https://scribd/doc/242588661/Union-Power-Sub-Ltr Among their promises to Substitute Teachers, they said they would (quoted from the campaign flyer linked above): * Instill in every union chapter at a school site a culture that welcomes and supports substitutes and insists that administrators and teachers alike treat them properly and fairly. * Engage in a full public relations effort to defend substitutes and register-carrying teachers from discipline solely on allegations and the guilty-until-proven-innocent-with-no-opportunity-to-prove-innocence position of LAUSD. * Set up a system for substitutes to immediately report violations that UTLA would immediately report to the local superintendent for redress. * Track ISRs by school and administrator to identify problem schools and principals. So, has Union Power done anything to even begin to fulfill ANY of these campaign promises? Public relations effort? ISR Tracking system? Reporting mechanism? Anything? Why did they remove their website? Were these just hollow campaign promises, or is UTLA actually doing ANYTHING to fulfill their campaign promises? Was this all just smoke and mirrors so they could get elected? The good news is that we can turn this around. You can make a difference.
