Dear Colleagues in Media Fraternity The Democracy Development Programme (DDP) together with the KwaZulu Natal Democracy and Education Forum (KZNDEF) requests your news department to offer coverage of the event as stated below in the invitation. This will be a great opportunity for your institution to contribute towards deepening democracy by informing South African citizens about the programmes and intentions of the Forum through media. DDP and KZNDEF recognize the critical role media plays in enabling citizens to participate in democratic processes of our country. For electronic media i.e. Radio, you are at liberty to call for a “cross-over” telephonically for your bulletins as the event progresses. For that purpose the Media Liaison Person will be myself, (Sifiso Kunene) and be contactable at 071 597 8421, from 13:30 on wards on the day of the event. The Democracy Development Programme (DDP) together with the KwaZulu Natal Democracy and Education Forum (KZNDEF) invites you to the launch of the KZNDEF. Background history of the KZNDEF The KZNDEF is a network of Civil Society Organisations in KwaZulu Natal which was established in 1998 out of the need for a neutral body to undertake civic education. The KZNDEF undertakes voter and democracy education, as well as monitoring and observing of elections in KwaZulu Natal. The Forum invites you to be part of the launch. Intention of the Forum In the run-up to the 2014 National and Provincial elections, the forum would like to inform CSOs, government and other institutions working on democracy about its existence, and to strengthen partnerships with relevant stakeholders. The meeting will be opportunity to understand the work of the KZNDEF, and to contribute towards the planning of upcoming activities. Who should attend Members of the KZNDEF, members of civil society on non-governmental organisations, faith-based leadership, traditional leadership, IEC staff, media and business communities are all invited to attend this launch.
