Dear Constituent: I wanted to make you aware of a new service - TopicsExpress

Dear Constituent: I wanted to make you aware of a new service that Governor Cuomo has activated today that will provide information related to the series of floods we have been experiencing here in the Mohawk Valley region. The New York State Flood Helpline at 1-888-769-7243 will provide callers with contact numbers and information related to oil spills or power outages; shelters and feeding centers; organizations providing flood recovery help such as the Red Cross or the Salvation Army; health care services such as tetanus shots; safety tips; mental health assistance; and for road closing information, among other things. If you are having an issue with your utility service, you can call National Grid toll free. Their number for electricity issues is 1-800-867-5222; for natural gas issues, it is 1-800-642-4272. In addition if you need safety tips related to utility service, the State Public Service Commission help line is available at 1-800-342-3377. The Red Cross help line provides information on shelters in our region at 315-705-5293. Last Friday, as soon as it was obvious that the flooding many residents of our area were experiencing was devastating, I wrote to Governor Cuomo requesting that Oneida and Herkimer Counties be declared a disaster area. The Governor did that later that same day; now we are awaiting a formal federal disaster declaration, which he has requested. Today I am visiting some of the areas affected by the flooding to assess how the state’s response to this disaster is progressing. I will continue to talk with officials at the local, state, and federal area to make sure that our region is not forgotten, because the clean up is going to be daunting. But I am confident that we can all work together to recover from this disaster as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns related to the flooding, please feel free to call my Utica district office at (315) 732-1055. Sincerely, Anthony Brindisi Member of Assembly
