Dear DAAD-Alumni! The Centre for Intercultural and European Studies (CINTEUS) at Fulda University of Applied Sciences is organising a workshop with the participation of DAAD-Alumni in October this year. The workshop is titled ‘An exercise in normative and real power: Promoting European values in the post-soviet space’. The focus is on the promotion/facilitation of democracy, human rights, rule of law, good governance, market economy, strengthening civil society, but also including questions of welfare as well as cultural and education exchange. The European actors under study may include: the EU, OSCE, Member States, NATO or non-governmental organisations. The countries in focus are: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The idea is to give an opportunity to DAAD-Alumni from different universities and countries to get together and present their (former or current) research for the Masters or PhD theses, exchange views and network. The participants are expected to prepare papers (about 15-20 pages) in advance. Deadline for the submission of short abstracts has been extended until July 10, 2013. Abstracts should be limited to 300 words. In order to ensure a lively discussion, the draft papers should be submitted by 1 October 2013. They may be written/presented in English or in German. As a result of the workshop, we intend to publish an edited volume with the workshop papers in the CINTEUS Series. We will be able to (at least partly) cover the travel and accommodation expenses.
