Dear DFS members and friends, PLEASE JOIN US FOR CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT – THURSDAY 11th DECEMBER IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE Director: Frank Capra Actors: James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, Henry Travers USA 1946; 135 minutes Cert. U. Classic/Drama What Christmas needs is schmaltz and snow and Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life has both by the hamper full. The holiday classic to define all holiday classics, this is one of a handful of films worth an annual viewing. Released 68 years ago, the film has become firmly established as the quintessential festive film, and frequently tops polls as the greatest Christmas film of all time. Prodded by failure, incompetence, deceit and despair hero George Bailey (James Stewart) teeters on the edge of sanity one snowy Christmas Eve. His mortgage company - which functions almost as a charity in his hometown of Bedford Falls - has been plunged into financial crisis, and he is on the point of plunging into the river that runs through town when his guardian angel Clarence appears. Clarence, a genial, bumbling 292-year-old, pulls George back from the brink by revealing to him the Bedford Falls of a parallel universe in which George has never been born. Thus the would-be suicide realises just how much good he has done - the lives he has saved, the suffering he has averted, the happiness he has caused. Strange, isnt it, says Clarence, how each mans life touches so many other lives? When he isnt around he leaves an awful hole, doesnt he? Will the evidence Clarence lays before him prompt George to decide that life is worth living after all? Please come and join us for our Christmas Party, with a free buffet cooked and prepared by the DFS Team and a complimentary drink on arrival. The film will be screened at The Guildhall, Victoria Road, Dartmouth. Door and bar open at 6.30pm; film will be shown at 7.30pm DFS Members free, Guest Tickets £5.00 (Christmas Buffet included) Guest tickets will be available on the night between 6.00pm and 6.30pm from: The Windjammer, Victoria Rd, Dartmouth For more information about Dartmouth Film Society, call Barbara Bardwell on: Tel. 07974 781021
