Dear Descendants of Oak Park Graduates I want to tell you a story about a young girl, marching in the Idella Washington Junior High School Band, who in 1968 had a dream of one day marching in the Oak Park High School Blue and White Band. As she and her sisters and friends set in the stands or parked overlooking the Oak Park Dragons football field, waiting for the half time show, visualizing herself as one of those band members. But that dream never came to pass. She was a product of integration. Now she can only see the remanents of the classes from 1929-1970 and hear the echoes from the 1929 administration of Mr. J.E. Johnson to the 1970 administration of Mr. Alex Warren. In 1976 the National Oak Park High School Alumni Association was founded by Dr. Thomas Roberson. For a number of years she along with others who were not Oak Park Graduates enjoyed the Oak Park experience, but now wish to become a part of it. She along with the descendants of the Oak Park Graduates would like to pick up and HELP carry the Oak Park Torch, as the New Generation. Our only goal is to make sure that Oak Park and what it stood for is never forgotten. Please join us on June 29, 2014 and become an Honorary Graduate of Oak Park. Graduation fees are $50.00 each and will be used for 1. Caps and Gowns 2. Diplomas and Covers 3. Graduation Reception Fees are due on or before May 15, 2014. Graduating from high school or college is NOT a requirement to become an Honorary Graduate of Oak Park. Required reading The Oak Park Story, A Cultural History 1928-1970 by Cleveland Payne.
