Dear DirecTV subscribers: As you know, we are currently not - TopicsExpress

Dear DirecTV subscribers: As you know, we are currently not available to you through DirecTV. We understand how frustrating this is to you and your family. In fact, many of our own staff members are also on DirecTV. We don’t like being disconnected from you any more than you like being disconnected from us, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Our parent company, Raycom Media, has been working for months in advance to negotiate an agreement and avoid disruption of service, and continues to work around the clock toward an agreement that will end the disruption of service. In the meantime, there are a few things we’d like you to know. Raycom Media is not denying DirecTV or viewers access to our signal. Without a contract in place, DirecTV cannot legally air Raycom Media stations. By failing to come to an agreement with Raycom Media, DirecTV is preventing you from seeing WIS-TV through their system. In the meantime, WIS-TV remains available to you and everyone in the area FREE via an antenna, streaming on our apps and website. You can also watch full episodes of NBC shows for free online & via the NBC app. Of course, WIS-TV is also available via other cable and satellite TV providers, although we hope the issue is resolved soon enough that you need not consider those options. Raycom Media is simply asking DirecTV to pay fair market value. DirecTV charges you for the ability to receive our signal via their system. They make a profit off of the programming we provide. Raycom is simply asking that they fairly compensate us for the programming we provide. In fact, they routinely pay certain programming services in excess of 5 times more than Raycom Media is asking per subscriber, although local broadcasters still account for well over 90% of the most popular shows on television and on DirecTV’s system. This link will give you an idea of which cable channels receive the most compensation: shout.lt/C7MH. Please know that Raycom continues to work on negotiations, and we hope the issue will be resolved sooner rather than later. In the meantime, you should ask DirecTV for a rebate because you are paying for a station that you are not receiving. (We have heard of satellite providers in the past offering $5, $10 or $15 monthly rebates for up to 6 months.) You can reach them at 1-800-531-5000. It certainly won’t make up for the inconvenience, but may make it a little easier to bear. Again, we hate being disconnected from you, and we hope to be back with you soon. Until then, please download the WIS-TV app to stream our newscasts live or stream them from wistv We’ll keep you posted at wistv/directv and here on Facebook. You are important to us. Know that we understand your frustration and apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience, your viewership, and your interaction with us here on social media. We hope to see you soon on DirecTV.
