Dear Directors Jasareno, Claudio, Uykieng: We are appealing to you not to lift the suspension orders of the four mining companies simultaneously operating in the towns of Sta. Cruz, Candelaria and Infanta. Cancellation of the issued MPSAs is justice. Pope Francis said, If we will destroy creation, it will destroy us. Please, heed our Pope. Thank you and God bless. Benito E. Molino, MDChairperson, CCOS An APPEAL to the MGB and EMB We have been informed that the MGB and EMB are planning to lift the suspension orders on the mining operations of the four mining companies. If so, this is an act of impunity. The people are yet to get justice from the massive destruction of the environment of the town of Sta. Cruz, yet the government will again allow the mining operations that have caused this injustice. THUS, WE APPEAL TO THE CONCERNED GOVERNMENT AGENCIES NOT ONLY TO CONTINUE THEIR SUSPENSION, CANCELLATION OF THEIR MPSAs IS THE MORE POLITICALLY CORRECT ACTION. The rights and welfare of the people, especially from the affected communities should come first. This is the role of the government, to ensure that the rights of the people are respected, protected and fulfilled. But this is not done in the towns of Sta. Cruz and Candelaria in Zambales. The people are already suffering economically, physically and emotionally from the destruction of their livelihood, properties and surroundings, yet the government continues to allow the simultaneous operations of four mining companies that have caused massive environmental destruction that have already reached the sea. The devastation of the environment is not yet fully investigated and documented. The investigation and documentation of the effects of the mining operations to the corals and the sea are yet to be done. The devastated rivers, swamps, fishponds and farmlands are not yet fully desilted, much less rehabilitated. The affected farmers and fisherfolks are yet to get back their livelihood operational especially the latter. The destroyed roads and highways are still in bad shape. The mountains destroyed by the mining operations have caused the reduction of water flowing to irrigated farms, thus some irrigated farms are no longer tilled. Also, the water has high level of nickel stunting the growth of palay, thus the reduced produce by 30%. The mining operators are yet to build their own mining road. Therefore, mining operations should not be allowed to continue.
